A community activist who opposed the construction of nuclear power plants across Alameda County in California, Suzanne Lindsey taught gifted students for many years in the Mt. Diablo Unified School District. Suzanne Lindsey continues to reside in Alameda, where she enjoys sailing.
The San Francisco Bay Area offers excellent sailing for a diverse range of craft. The area between Alameda and Oakland, officially titled the Oakland Inner Harbor but often called the estuary, provides protected sailing for small boats. Larger yachts often motor out into San Francisco Bay itself, which includes a variety of wind conditions.
Those looking for lighter winds may want to keep south of the Bay Bridge or head north to Raccoon Strait near Angel Island. Heavier winds somewhat regularly fill the area between Angel Island and Treasure Island, known as The Slot.
On Angel Island, visitors can dock their boats at a day-use marina in Ayala Cove and go ashore to hike the island, view the Knox Point Lighthouse, and find refreshments at the Angel Island Cafe or Cove Cantina Oyster Bar.
